Well, it’s New Year’s Day, which means I keep seeing & hearing the word “resolutions” all over the place. Personally, I’ve never been a fan of New Year’s Resolutions and I don’t bother making them. I will, however, set personal goals and do my best to achieve those goals by December 31, 2013. And just in case you’re curious, here are those goals:
1. Lose at least 25 pounds. Based on the last time I stepped on a scale in 2011 and my weight this morning, I lost roughly 22 pounds in 2012. I was 259 today (was 250 after getting out of the hospital Thanksgiving weekend, but that’s another story) and 220 is where I’d like to be at. I also think that if I lose more weight, maybe my allergies won’t bother me as much, same with my psoriasis and the asthma I’ve apparently developed over the years. Only good things can come from losing weight, right?
2. Figure out what I want to study and how to pay for it, then get started on my Master’s degree. I need to get this done for a couple of reasons. 1st, as a teacher, it’s pretty much the only way I can move up on the pay scale; 2nd, I like taking classes; and 3rd, if I can get my MA from ASU, I’ll have one of those really cool maroon & gold thingys that drapes over your shoulders at graduation. Oh, and 4th, maybe I’ll know what those drapey thingys are actually called.
3. Travel more. I want to go to Disneyland. I want to go to San Francisco to see the Giants play. I want to go back to Arizona or Pittsburgh to visit friends. Who doesn’t like to travel? I do. And I want to do it more (although Disneyland isn’t really traveling since it’s about an hour drive from home).
4. Get a full-time teaching job so I can pay for all of this.
I think those are four pretty simple, very attainable goals for 2013.
Do it!
